Phil Robertson Schools the GOP

Friday at CPAC, Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame, schooled potential Republican candidates in religion,The United States and history. It needed to be said. Our Nation has slid into a humanist pool of immorality and narcissism. Phil reminded us that a country so debased can not long stand. Wil and Ariel Durant in their book “Lessons From History” pointed out that no country has ever developed the moral ethic necessary to long stand without religion. They then asked: “We frolic in our emancipation from theology, but have we developed a natural ethic-a moral code independent of religion-strong enough to keep our instincts of acquisition, pugnacity, and sex from debasing our civilization into a mire of greed, crime, and promiscuity?” The answer is no. Phil has simply reminded us that our constitution was written for moral society and that without the “free EXERCISE of religion, we cannot long endure.

The “twiterverse” is awash with snarky comments about Phil and his lecture on STD’s. Those that denigrate Phil’s comments either didn’t listen to the entire talk and get the true essence of the message, or they are ignorant about the underlying requirements for our democratic republic to survive. We need good principled men of God leading the country and we need to care about each other. To an educated audience, Phil’s words, cannot fail to remind us and give us pause to evaluate the direction and moral fiber of our country.

There is no doubt that Phil loves God, loves this country and loves freedom. He loves his fellowman. I applaud him for saying what needed to be said. “God help us.”

It was the best talk of the convention. “If you have a better story, lay it on me.”
